The performance of the Audi A5 is dependent on the engine that it is paired with, and Audi have plenty to choose from. The entry level engine for the Audi A5 is the 1.8TFSI Petrol unit which provides 170PS of power and takes the Audi A5 coupe to 62MPH in 7.9 seconds. Other petrol engines within the Audi A5 range include a 2.0TFSI 4 cylinder engine (only available in quattro models), Taking the car to 62MPH in 6.4 seconds whilst still returning a combined fuel economy of over 40MPG (That is Audi’s official figure, real road tests for this engine deliver a fuel economy of around 33MPG).
At the top end of the petrol range, Audi offer a 3.0TFSI Supercharged petrol engine in the Audi S5 and a huge 4.2 Litre V8 in the RS5 that will launch the car from 0 to 60 in the blink of an eye. Both are fantastically refined engines that perform tremendously well (especially when overtaking) and really benefit from the 7 Speed S-Tronic transmissions they are perfectly matched with.
The diesel engines offered in the Audi A5 range from a entry level 2.0TDI unit providing 150PS of power, and a 2.0TDI unit offering 177PS of power. Two 3.0TDI diesel engines are also offered providing 204Ps and 245PS of power.
